Best Time to Visit Miami
Miami is a year-round destination but the timing of your trip makes a big difference in the experience.
I visited in early January and it was absolutely perfect — sunny and warm during the day, calm and breezy at night with zero rain. January sits right in the heart of Miami’s peak season and for good reason. The weather is genuinely ideal and it’s one of the few places in the world where you can be on the beach in January without freezing. If you can visit between November and April you’re in the sweet spot.

Here’s a quick breakdown by season:
November — April (Best) Warm sunny days, low humidity, little to no rain. This is peak tourist season so expect higher hotel prices and more crowds — but the weather more than makes up for it. Early January is particularly magical.
May — June (Good) Still pleasant but humidity starts to creep up. Fewer crowds and lower prices make this a solid option if peak season doesn’t work for your budget.
July — September (Hot and Humid) This is Miami’s summer — hot, very humid and afternoon thunderstorms are common. The beaches are still beautiful and hotel prices drop significantly but be prepared for the heat and occasional rain interrupting plans.
October (Shoulder Season) A nice sweet spot — the worst of the summer heat has passed, prices are still reasonable and crowds are thinner before peak season kicks in. 🌴
Where to Stay
Miami has two main areas that are ideal for first time visitors — South Beach and Mid Beach. Both are great options depending on your vibe.
South Beach is the classic Miami experience — Ocean Drive, art deco architecture, Nikki Beach, incredible nightlife and everything within walking distance. It’s lively, energetic and very walkable. Perfect if you want to be in the middle of the action.
Mid Beach is slightly quieter and more upscale — less party energy, more relaxed beach vibes. Still close to everything but with a calmer atmosphere. Great if you want beautiful beaches without the South Beach chaos.
Hotel Recommendations

The Goodtime Hotel — South Beach (~$300-400/night) My personal recommendation and where I stayed. It is absolutely stunning — aesthetic, fun and perfectly located. Every corner is Instagrammable from the lobby to the elevators to the pool. As a hotel guest you get complimentary wristbands to their famous pool parties. A must-visit within the hotel is Strawberry Moon — the restaurant and bar owned by Pharrell Williams and David Grutman. It is too cute for words and the vibe is unlike anywhere else 🍓
1 Hotel South Beach — South Beach (~$400-600/night) A stunning eco-luxury hotel right on the beach.
Faena Hotel Miami Beach — Mid Beach (~$500-800/night) One of the most iconic and visually stunning hotels in Miami.
The Setai Miami Beach — South Beach (~$600-900/night) Ultra-luxury Asian inspired resort with three stunning pools and impeccable service. One of the most beautiful hotels in Miami and consistently ranked among the best in the world.
The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club — South Beach (~$150-200/night) A great budget-friendly option on Collins Avenue. Clean, well-located and fun without the luxury price tag.
Before You Go – Essential Miami Trips
Getting around: I highly recommend the Big Bus Hop-On Hop-Off ticket for exploring beyond South Beach. It covers all the major spots, the app is super helpful for tracking buses in real time, and the stop is just 2 minutes from The Goodtime Hotel. I got the Red Bus + Boat Cruise combo ticket which is redeemable and can be used up to 48 hours – incredible value. Book online in advance to save time.
Making reservations: Book Gianni’s Restaurant in Versace House and Casa Neos in advance. Both are popular and you don’t want to miss them.
Observation Wheel at Bayside: Purchase tickets online in advance – separate from the Red Bus ticket.
Cruise timing tip: Time your cruise to depart about 1.5 hours before sunset. You’ll enjoy the cruise during daylight and get absolutely stunning skyline views as the sun goes down. If you want to book it separately, I recommend the Island Queen Boat Cruise Tour.
Day 1 – Arrive and Settle In
Most people arrive in Miami in the evening so keep Day 1 simple – check into The Goodtime Hotel, freshen up and soak in the South Beach Energy. If you arrive early enough, take a stroll along Ocean Drive to get your bearings. The art deco architecture, the neon lights and the ocean breeze at night is genuinely one of the most magical urban experiences you can have.
Grab dinner at Strawberry Moon at the hotel if you don’t feel like venturing far – it’s the perfect welcome-to-Miami meal 🌴
Day 2 – South Beach, Nikki Beach and Versace House
Morning – Ocean Drive Walk

Wake up early and take a walk along Ocean Drive. The morning light on the art deco buildings is beautiful and the beach is peaceful before the crowds arrive. Stop at any of the cafes along the way for coffee and breakfast – there are great options everywhere and the people watching alone is worth it.
Daytime – Nikki Beach

Head to Nikki Beach for the day. Don’t forget to click a picture of the Miami Beach sign on Ocean Drive on the way. Nikki Beach is connected to the beach so you get the best of both worlds – great drinks and music on one side, the actual ocean on the other. Vibe to the music, dip in the ocean, order a cocktail and just enjoy being in Miami. You can grab lunch here or head back to Strawberry Moon at the hotel.
Afternoon – Pool Party
If there’s a pool party happening at The Goodtime Hotel (check when you check in), this is the perfect time to go. Use your complimentary wristband, enjoy the music and the atmosphere and get ready for the evening.
Evening – Versace Mansion

Get dressed up and head to Gianni’s Restaurant at the former Versace Mansion for dinner. Make reservations in advance – this is non-negotiable. The house itself is stunning – you’re literally dining in the former mansion of Gianni Versace and every detail reflects that. The food and service are exceptional and the experience of being in that space is something you won’t forget. After dinner take a leisurely stroll along Ocean Drive in the evening, feel the ocean breeze and just take it all in 🌊
Day 3 – Little Havana, Bayside and Sunset Cruise
Today is a busy day and wonderful day. Grab your Red Bus + Boat Cruise combo ticket and get ready to explore.
Morning – Little Havana

Hop on the Red Bus and get off at Little Havana. Walk along Calle Ocho and take in the murals, the music and the incredible energy of this neighborhood. A photo in front of the iconic Little Havana mural is a must – don’t skip it.
Two stops on Calle Ocho that you can’t miss:

La Colada – get the Cuban coffee. It’s strong, sweet and absolutely delicious. This is not optional.
Azucar Ice Cream – right after the coffee, treat yourself to ice cream at Azucar. The flavors are creative and rooted in Cuban culture and it’s one of those experiences that is uniquely Miami.
Afternoon – Bayside Marketplace

Hop back on the Red Bus and get off at Bayside Marketplace. Ride the Skyviews Observation Wheel for incredible views of the bay and the Miami skyline – purchase tickets online in advance. Then head to the marina to redeem your boat cruise ticket.
Time your boat cruise strategically – aim to depart about 1.5 hours before sunset. The boat takes you around Millionaire’s Row and the Miami skyline, and arriving back at the marina right at golden hour is absolutely breathtaking. The views of the skyline at sunset are some of the best you’ll get in Miami 🌅
Dinner at Bayside – After the cruise grab dinner at one of the many restaurants at Bayside Marketplace. There are tons of options for every taste and budget and the waterfront setting makes everything feel special. Then head back to the hotel for a well deserved rest – you have another big day tomorrow!
Day 4 – Design District, Dior Cafe, Wynwood and Brickell
Today is arguably the best day of the whole trip. Grab your Red Bus ticket and sit on the top deck of the double decker – the views are incredible. A little tip – tie your hair in a ponytail or bun since it gets super windy while crossing the bridge to downtown Miami.
Morning – Soundscape Park
The stop right after South Beach is Soundscape Park – you don’t need to get off but take a moment to admire it from the bus. It looks peaceful and beautiful, especially in the morning light.
Mid-Morning – Design District

Get off at the Design District and spend some time exploring. The luxury stores, the architecture and the street art make this one of the most visually stunning neighborhoods in Miami. Window shopping here feels like an experience in itself.
The absolute highlight of the Design District – honestly one of the highlights of the entire trip – us the Dior Cafe. It is on the upper floor of the Dior store and it is stunning. There may be a short wait to get in but it is completely worth it. Order the Miami special coffee and a croissant – both are exceptional. The interior is as beautiful as you’d expect from Dior and the whole experience feels incredibly special.
Afternoon – Wynwood Walls and Brickell

Hop back on the Red Bus and admire the famous Wynwood Walls murals from the top deck as you pass through – the colors and the scale of the street art are incredible even from the bus.
Get off at the last stop – Little Havana – and take an Uber (about 11 minutes) to Brickell City Center. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Brickell – the shopping, the architecture and the energy of Miami’s financial district is a completely different vibe from South Beach and worth experiencing.
Evening – Case Neos and Rosa Sky

Since this is your last full night in Miami, make it count. Dinner at Casa Neos is an absolute must – make reservations well in advance. This is a proper fine dining experience and the food and service are both exceptional. The crowd and the cars parked outside tell you everything you need to know about the caliber of this restaurant.
After dinner the night doesn’t have to end – head to Rosa Sky Rooftop for a nightcap. Order their signature drink – The Rosa Sky – the ice cube is shaped like a flower and is as beautiful as it is delicious. The rooftop views of Miami at night are the perfect way to close out your last evening in the city 🌃
Day 5 – Lincoln Road, Española Way and Airport
You have a few hours before your flight so make them count. Check out of the hotel – they’ll store your bags so you can keep exploring hands-free.
Lincoln Road and Española Way

Head to Lincoln Road for a morning stroll – it’s a pedestrian shopping street with great energy in the morning. We lucked out as there was a farmer’s market going on and we had an incredible time visiting all the various booths filled with fresh fruit, vegetables, and even art. Then make your way to Española Way, one of Miami’s most charming and photogenic streets. The Mediterranean Revival architecture and the artistic vibe make it feel completely different from the rest of South Beach.
Brunch – CRAFT South Beach

Have brunch at CRAFT South Beach on Española Way – it’s an amazing cafe and the perfect final Miami meal. I recommend ordering the avocado toast and cold coffee.
Final Stop – Watr Rooftop

Walk along the beach one last time and then head to Watr – a rooftop spot with gorgeous views. Take in the vibe, have a final drink and say goodbye to Miami properly. Then pick up your bags from the hotel and head to the airport ✈️
Recommended Cafes in Miami
Beyond the spots already mentioned, here are a few cafes worth adding to your list:
Motek Cafe — Israeli inspired cafe with gorgeous interiors and incredible food. Very aesthetic and very Miami.
Maman Cafe — a beautiful French inspired cafe known for its nutty chocolate chip cookies and cozy atmosphere. Multiple locations in Miami.
La Industria Bakery & Cafe — owned by reggaeton legend Nicky Jam. The pastries are incredible and the fact that it’s celebrity owned makes it a fun stop. Very popular so go early or expect a wait.
Bonus Places to Visit
Didn’t make it into the main itinerary but absolutely worth adding if you have extra time:
Coconut Grove — one of Miami’s oldest neighborhoods with a bohemian, artsy vibe. Great restaurants, independent shops and a beautiful marina. Very different energy from South Beach.
Bal Harbour Shops — one of the most upscale open air shopping malls in the US. Beautiful architecture, luxury brands and a gorgeous outdoor setting. Worth a visit even just to walk around.
South Pointe Park — a beautiful park at the southern tip of South Beach with stunning views of the ocean and the cruise ships passing by. Perfect for a morning walk or sunset.
Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) — a stunning waterfront contemporary art museum in downtown Miami. The building itself is as impressive as the art inside.
Key Biscayne — a short drive or Uber from South Beach, Key Biscayne offers some of the most beautiful and less crowded beaches in Miami. Worth the trip if you want to escape the South Beach crowds for a few hours.
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens — a stunning Italian Renaissance style villa and gardens overlooking Biscayne Bay. One of the most beautiful and photogenic spots in all of Miami. 📸
Kaseya Center — if you’re a basketball fan and the Miami Heat are playing during your visit, catching a game here is an incredible experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many days do you need in Miami?
Three to four full days is the sweet spot for covering South Beach, Little Havana, the Design District, Wynwood and Brickell without feeling rushed. Five days gives you more breathing room and flexibility.
Is Miami expensive?
Miami can be as expensive or as budget friendly as you make it. South Beach restaurants and nightlife can get pricey but the Red Bus ticket is great value, many beach activities are free and there are options at every price point especially in neighborhoods like Little Havana and Bayside.
What is the best time to visit Miami?
November through April is the ideal window — warm, sunny and lower humidity. Summer is hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms though the beaches are still beautiful.
Is South Beach safe?
South Beach is generally very safe for tourists, especially along Ocean Drive and the main tourist areas. As with any city, be aware of your surroundings especially late at night.
Do I need a car in Miami?
Not if you’re staying in South Beach. The Red Bus covers all the major tourist spots and Uber is very accessible and affordable for the gaps. Having a car can actually be more of a hassle than a help in South Beach due to parking.

Absolutely yes — the experience, the interior and the food are all exceptional. The wait is usually short and even if it weren’t, it would be worth it. Go. ☕✨
